Connect your Steamworks financial key

SteamStats reads wishlists and sales with a Financial API key from Steamworks. Create a Financial API Group on the Manage Groups page, copy the key shown on the group's page and paste it in Settings › Sources. The key is encrypted and never shown again. Fetches start on your plan's schedule and earlier days are backfilled from Steam.

Before you start

  • A Steamworks login that can open Users & Permissions › Manage Groups for your partner account.
  • A SteamStats organization on Indie, Studio, and Publisher. Radar reads public Steam pages only and does not use a key.
  • Your game added in SteamStats with its Steam app ID.
  • An owner or admin role in SteamStats; members cannot change keys.

Create the key in Steamworks

  1. In Steamworks, open Users & Permissions › Manage Groups.
  2. Create a Financial API Group. Valve's documentation says this group has no users and no apps.
  3. Open the new group's page. The Financial Web API key is shown there.
  4. Optional: under Manage WebAPI Key on the same page, limit the key to trusted IP addresses. If you do, add SteamStats's outgoing address, which the app shows next to the key field.

Valve's documentation says the key reads every app on the partner account and asks you to keep it as safe as a password. SteamStats stores it encrypted and only ever fetches the games you add.

Add the key to SteamStats

  1. Open Settings › Sources. The Steam partner key row says Not connected. The same field also appears in the setup steps after you add your first game.
  2. Choose Connect, paste the key and save.
  3. The row changes to Connected. After the first successful fetch it also shows the time of the latest one.

What SteamStats reads with the key

One key covers both reports. Wishlists refresh every 60 min on Indie, Studio, and Publisher. Sales, refunds and country breakdowns refresh every 4 h on Indie and every 60 min on Studio and Publisher. When Steam later corrects a past day, SteamStats updates that day too.

Earlier days

Once the key works, SteamStats imports your earlier days from Steam in the background. It can take a few days for a long history, and regular updates keep running while it does.

If Steam rejects the key

If Steam rejects the key, SteamStats stops using it at once and the Steam partner key row says Disabled. Check the group in Steamworks, then replace the key in Settings › Sources; the next update uses the new one.
