Steam analytics tools compared with SteamStats
These pages compare SteamStats with the tools Steam developers already use: Valve's own Steamworks reports, SteamDB, and the sales estimators Gamalytic and VG Insights. Each page sets out what every tool measures, where its data comes from and when the other tool is the better choice, with a source and check date for every claim.

The main difference
Public trackers and estimators work from what anyone can see on Steam: store pages, review counts, player counts and top seller ranks. Some model sales and revenue from those signals. SteamStats reads a studio's own Steamworks reports with its own key on Indie, Studio, and Publisher, so the wishlists, sales, refunds and payouts it shows for that studio's games are Steam's figures rather than estimates. It does not estimate other studios' sales.
Each comparison was checked against the other product's own pages on the date shown. Where a page could not be read automatically, the comparison says so and relies on the vendor's other published pages.
